Your Extraordinary Energy Channels

Updated: Jul 9

Your Energy Channel System is an amazingly complex, exquisite system filled with channels of energy that plays a distinct role in helping your energy move throughout every part of your whole body system.

Think of the Energy Channels as rivers, or ribbons, that continuously move energy through your body – some are just underneath the skin, some connect deep into every organ in your body, and there are channels that come from your Energetic Core to fuel and connect through your entire physical system. Just as your veins, capillaries, and arteries are integral to your physical body, your Energy Channels are integral to every part of your energy anatomy.

Together they ensure that you always have access to the energy you need for health and vitality at the level of your body, mind and soul.

There are three distinct Energy Channel systems within your energy system:

  1. The Organ Meridians

  2. The Extraordinary Channels

  3. The Nadis

Each of these channel systems plays a different role in helping your energy move throughout every part of your whole body system – the Organ Meridians support your physical body, the Extraordinary Channels support your soul expression and the Nadis act as a light bridge between the two.

Think of a network of roads across a nation; you have tiny roads that connect villages, mid-sized roads that connect towns, and highways that connect cities, and within each city you have the same division of tiny roads, medium roads and highways. Depending on where you are going on your own journey, you may travel on all three of these types of roads, or only one. This is exactly the situation that happens in your Energy Channels. Each channel has a specific direction, route and purpose and, when in connective balance, will achieve this purpose in the most streamlined and efficient way with energy flowing from one channel to the next.

Let’s take a look at what each of these energy channel systems hold in their unique vibration.

The Organ Meridian System

The Organ Meridians are the workers of your energy system, continually doing their job of maintaining flow and balance.

They have been catalogued for thousands of years, and it is into acupoints along the meridians that acupuncturists place their needles or use acupressure to enhance flow, connectivity and balance.

There are 12 Organ Meridians:

  1. Stomach

  2. Spleen

  3. Large Intestine

  4. Lung

  5. Bladder

  6. Kidney

  7. Gallbladder

  8. Liver

  9. Small intestine

  10. Triple Warmer

  11. Heart Protector

  12. Heart

Each of your 12 Organ Meridians have set pathways, and are responsible for specific tasks within your body system, although they form one immense and seamless network of connected energy lines, all involved in helping maintain your health. There is beautiful symmetry in your organ meridian system with different partnerships and relationships ensuring the system remains connective and balanced – every yin meridian has a partner yang meridian that it can borrow energy from or give energy to.

Each of your organs has an energy channel associated with it to help maintain flow and balance throughout your vital physical functions, helping to keep energy flowing through your body so that your physicality can be nourished, healthy and vital.

The most superficial aspect of the Organ Meridian System runs just under your skin, forming the outer network of flow, while other sections travel deeper into your body, sometimes through your organs, sometimes wrapping around them and other times diving deep into the body to connect into other energy systems such as the Extraordinary Channels, the bone marrow, and the brain.

The Extraordinary Channels

These channels carry the light and wisdom of your soul energy held within the Energetic Core.

There are eight extraordinary channels:

Du Mai (Governing Vessel)

Ren Mai (Conception / Central Vessel)

Chong Mai (Vital / Penetrating Vessel)

Dai Mai (Belt Vessel)

Yin Wei Mai (Yin Regulator Vessel)

Yang Wei Mai (Yang Regulator Vessel)

Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Bridge Vessel)

Yang Qiao Mai (Yang Bridge Vessel)

Together the Extraordinary Channels regulate and govern your brain and spinal

cord, your endocrine system, skeletal system, and your circulatory system.

They also govern your genitalia, your hepatic and biliary system and are key in

the formation of blood cells.

These vast reservoirs of energy radiate from the core and wrap through you and around you to ensure that the physical body can always be nurtured by this soul energy. One of my favourite teachers, Caitlin Matthews, talks of how the body is marinated in the soul. I would completely agree, and it is through these Extraordinary Channels that this marinating happens.

The key takeaway about the Extraordinary Channels is that they are deep, wide, and light-filled which means they carry radiance wherever they flow. This profound connective energy can heal your physical body, and support and balance your emotional and cognitional states. Perhaps you have been deeply touched by a sunset, or a painting in a gallery, or the wisdom in a child’s smile. At that point, your Extraordinary Channels are in full flow.

They connect the energy of your essence with the energy of the world essence. I would even go so far as to say that your Extraordinary Channels connect your individual soul with the world soul. When they are active then the energy of compassion, generosity, kindness and deep wisdom will be flowing through every cell of your body and bringing that vibration out into the world around you.

The Nadis

I love the Nadis! Just thinking about them gets my Nadi system hum hum humming.

Beginning deep in the lower abdomen in an energy centre called your Lower Dantien, they create an interconnected web of energy made up of vibrating, resonating filaments. It is an amazing part of your energy anatomy that sings your body into being, and because of this I have always referred to them as the songlines of the body.

They run on the skin, under the skin, deep in the tissues, and wrap around your organs. They exist throughout all of the Aura, weave and connect into all of the Chakras and are connective with and connected to every part of you. In Ayurvedic health philosophy it is understood that there are 101 main Nadi channels in the body. Each of these 101 channels split off to create a total of 72,000 in the whole body field, with a dense concentration around your navel, your heart and your brain where you have three powerful energy centres.

The word Nadi derives from the word, nad, meaning hollow stalk, sound vibration and resonance. They are everywhere and yet non-distinct from other parts of your energy anatomy. I first started noticing them when I would be working with a client and hear the songlines activate when deep healing was taking place, for they would begin to resonate, to hum, to sing in a different way. They sing the body alive, and when you connect with them, when you tune into them, you hear the vibration of your body. The more you connect to them, the more you hear the song of your body, the song of your spirit, the song of your soul.
