I was recently teaching in California and three quarters of the group felt deeply tired after doing a specific energy practice.

I invited them to explore why that might be and there were lots of great answers… ‘Relaxing more makes me realise I’m tired’, ‘I’m more grounded and it feels like my system is running more slowly than before’, ‘I didn’t sleep well last night’, ‘I’m doing too much in my life and this practice makes me realise I need to prioritise more me-time’. Yes, yes and more yes; all these answers hold profound self-realisations and truth.

Let me tell you what I so frequently see in people’s energy when they do an energy practice that invites energetic grounding, harmony and cohesion. Their hormones change. Especially the locked-in patterns being played out through the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, that result in adrenaline and cortisol being over-produced, meaning that you are living in a state of sympathetic nervous system arousal and experiencing your fight/flight/freeze reactivity.

When you’re dealing with any kind of stress, it’s your adrenal glands that activate that fight/flight/freeze response in your body.

It’s a wise, life-saving response that has evolved as a reaction to direct threat, but when you’re dealing with chronic stress, you can become locked in fight/flight/freeze reactivity, or survival.

Survival means you are operating within the habitual/reactive energy field, and you can’t thrive and access your deep and beautiful balance within. When you experience stress, tiredness or overwhelm day after day for a prolonged period of time, your adrenal health can become compromised and your energy systems can begin to lose their regular healthy flow, instead holding patterns of dysfunction and imbalance. This can leave you feeling defensive, constricted, exhausted, stressed, quick to anger or tears. Your sleep patterns, digestive health and immune function may become disrupted, and your hormones can move out of balance.

When you are able to nourish your adrenal glands, you can move into your creative, responsive energy field that invites the potential for expansion, connectivity, and joy.

Your energy systems are coherent and you can experience stability, mental clarity, easy connection to people, animals and the world around you. You can keep your balance when someone or something throws a curveball into your day, you can even keep your sense of humour. You feel expansive and trusting. You feel like you can deeply engage with your own life, free from old programmes of dysfunction.

Doing an energy practice that grounds you and invites alignment through your whole energy system (and therefore your entire physical system too) helps your HPA axis settle, and your adrenal glands get to rest. When this happens, and you are able to actually experience yourself in your deeper energetic state, you may feel tired as (like the class participant said), you realise that there is a need for deeper nourishment and a shifting in your priorities so that you are able to feel healthy, vibrant and joyful as you go through your day.

In my video this month, which you can find below, I share a nourishing practice to restore health and bring balance to your adrenal glands for greater harmony, vitality and peace, so you can relax, recharge and access your fullest energy.

I’ll also be live in The Gathering Ground on Friday 13th November at 3pm UK time, where we’ll expand on the exploration of adrenal gland health, and I’ll be answering your questions and sharing more information about November’s energy. You can join me here.

The great news is that this month we get to be bathed in cosmic energy that invites nourishment, restoration and rebalancing. It invites you to step into and be deeply supported in your role as being the loving and compassionate guardian of your own soul.

Being your own soul guardian means empowering yourself, nurturing and enlivening your dreams as you walk along your soul path. Ask yourself, what conversations and connections do you have that help nourish that spark within you? How are you connecting with the natural world? Creativity in all its forms is an amazing way to be a guardian of your own soul, so explore how you can give yourself even more time for your creative energy to flow through you, not once a year when you sit down and create something that has been building in you - but daily. Or at least weekly. For some of you that will be writing, singing or painting. For others it will be working with people in groups. Explore all the places where you compromise your own needs, your own integrity, your own wild wisdom and be alert to any excuses that keep you stuck in that place of putting your needs lowest on the list.

I’m writing this blog just after the beautiful full moon on Oct 25th and as I watch the energy coming in, its colour vibration is a magnificent royal blue.

Remember that colour is vibration, vibration is energy, and energy is information.

This blue has a vibration of the pines and the forests, the blue of the ocean, the blue of the great blessing of water and life itself.

It looks to me that it is a vast wave of restorative energy and the invitation is to immerse yourself in it, receive its bounty and its abundance. There is nothing scary about this blue vibration. It is the great nurturing blue of this planet, a sacred and known colour to every human being.

My guides tell us:

The energy of this month is rich and abundant. Swim within it, call into it, co-create with it. Let it open you even more and remember who you are and why you are here. It is the colour of resolve, fierce love and compassion. It is the colour of unconditional love and commitment. See yourself wrapped in this archetypal mother love that the earth continually resounds with. It is a delicious embracing energy, hug it close to yourself.

The image they show me is Kwan Yin, the Goddess of compassion. She has been a close companion and inspiration to me since I was in my teenage years, and is an energy of love, wisdom, compassion and acceptance. You can read more about Kwan Yin here and here (this one has some of the folk stories and myths that has made Kwan Yin so beloved).

This month, can you be your own soul guardian? Can you, like Kwan Yin,  be an energy of compassion, a loving force in this world? Can you commit to being compassionate to yourself first and then to others?

What would that look like; if everyday you were compassionate to yourself how might it change your day, your life, your world?

I so hope you’ll try it. By becoming the guardian of your own soul, you light the way for all of us.

Much love to you,

Prune
